Multi-monitors implementation on Hyprland vs DE's (Gnome, KDE, XFCE, etc) with Nvidia

Hi, I've recently switched to hyprland this week on nixos from gnome (also on nixos) - great doc btw.

I've noticed that former issues I had with DE's (tested different ones without much success) regarding multi-monitors (on both x11 and wayland) with some assumed to be Nvidia's issues, no longer occur.

Here's a list of some of these issues (on DE's):

• plugging / un-plugging a monitor causes the system to freeze, needs to shut it down then reboot
• changing display’s layout position (e.g which to left, center, right) and refresh rate from e.g gnome-control-center causes system to freeze as well
• only able to run laptop display at 60hz, HDMI at 120hz and DP at 60hz => higher on any display’s will also freeze the system
• only able to to confiture monitors through .config/monitors.xml on X11, e.g gnome-control-center will not take any settings into account - works on Wayland BUT 1 change = 1 freeze = 1 reboot
• some games would just freeze randomly
• suspend issues
• etc...

I’m now able to run laptop display at 144hz, HDMI at 144hz and DP at 120hz.
I can plug and un-plug monitors, system still runs fine and won’t freeze.
Suspend works as well without workaround (at least for now, thanks Nvidia).
etc...

That makes me wonder, if DE's multi-monitor implementation is the actual root cause of these issues.
As mentioned, most people would point to some Nvidia issues while I haven't encountered any on hyprland so far.

Is there some "advanced" doc or description of hyperland's implementation for multi-monitors setup where I may find difference(s) in how DE's VS hyprland manage these?
I do still need to run a DE for work (need x11) so I'm curious to know how hyprland may have tackled that.

I don't know, never read how gnome is written. We just wrote our own DRM/KMS layer from scratch and through a lot of testing and patches from many people it's just been working pretty well.
