hyprctl dispatch dpms off causes a new workspace to appear

I have 2 1440p monitors and 1 1080p monitor with a transform 1 on it.
I usually have 3 workspaces (1 for each monitor)
when running hyprctl dispatch dpms off I get a 4th workspace
I cant switch to this workspace (cmd: hyprctl dispatch workspace 4) but moving a window to this workspace (cmd: hyprctl dispatch movetoworkspace 4) causes hyprland to crash

I also found that disabling the 1080p monitor fixes the issue
1: not enabling it in the 1st place makes the issue never appear
2: disabling and re-enabling that monitor through the hyprland config fixes the issue

Details:
OS: Arch Linux 6.17.9-arch1-1
Hyprland version: 0.52.2-2 (have had this problem ever since I added this monitor to my setup in august 2025)
