Accessing current gamma/temp values

I am using hyprland v0.51.1 on arch and hyprsunset v0.3.3 along with the MSI G225F monitor where I am unable to control the brightness directly. hyprctl hyprsunset gamma -INT allows me to reduce the brightness. I would like to dispatch a notification when I use a keybinding to change the brightness. However, I am unable to figure out how to get current gamma/temp settings to show a progress bar for the notification.

I am aware that I could just save the info about gamma/temp to a temporary file and control things via a script binded to a keybinding. But it might be useful to just be able to access the current settings via some getter command.

It exits cleanly, and also seems to reset the gamma instead. Not sure if this info is needed but there is no hyprsunset.conf that I have created.
I have exec/defaults.conf sourced in hyprland.conf which contains: exec = killall hyprsunset; hyprsunset.

I am not sure what is going wrong.

This returns the current gamma or temp.

hyprctl hyprsunset [gamma or temperature]

I'm pretty sure you could control your monitor's brightness with ddcutil, most monitors if not all support DDC/CI. It's a bit janky and slow (my monitor sucks) but I like it more than software brightness
