How to resize horizontal panes ?

Sorry for the dumb question, but I can't figure out how to resize horizontal panes. When I resize them with the mouse, they get restored to the original state, and I didn't understand which keybindings I should use.

Yes, this is not currently planned as a native feature, but it is possible with custom layouts.
