Downloading Images based on date range and / or specific file names

As it happens, I sometimes "loose" already downloaded images (accidental deletion etc.). So far, I either went directly to Icloud Photo to get it back --> Cumbersome, or I even created a small tool based on pyIcloud which scans from old to new and checks for specific date ranges and files and then loads just those. --> Very boring as it takes forever. Ideally I would love to use ICLOUDPD for this. You must have solved the scanning from new -> old, so that would be a first step to solving this issue. You may have som other ideas how to address this?
