Compiling PETSc

Hello, I am having problem compiling PETSc,
I am not sure how to understand the compiler on the cluster, but I have already contacted the adminstrator and waiting for for their reply. I thought of consulting you too.
The compiler I have is gcc 5.2, and I am not sure why it cannot locate the C compiler. Can you please help me with that?

have you tried following the prompts given by the warnings ? Eg specifying CXX=$CXX and same for the other languages.

Also are you installing from source directly or are you using the update_and_rebuild_petsc.ah in moose/scripts/ ?

That didn't work too. I added --with-cxx=mpicc \ in line 122 as a configure option and
the error was

C++ error! MPI_Finalize() could not be located!

I think at this point, it could be a compiler issue. I will contact my cluster adminstrator to check the compiler. If PETSC was compiled first but it the tests didn't successfully, then as you mentioned the flags are ignored and this seems to be a compiler issue! what do you think?

This points towards an issue with your compilers yes.
You should be able to google this particular error, or find help on the petsc side.

Could you share "configure.log" with us? It is located in moose/petsc
