Integating Group Types and Tags

I was playing around with group types and tags. Since neither have a hierarchy of parent and child relationship, if we combine them, we would have tags for each group type. For example, for groups types there would be: Arts and Language, Technology, Sports, etc. Under Sports we would have tags: Baseball, Basketball, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball, Grass Volleyball, Indoor Volleyball, etc.

In addition, each tags would have related tags. Take the Volleyball tag above, it would be related to Beach, Grass, Indoor and another tag in a different group type for Outdoors.

I am curious about your thoughts.

I think Group Types or Tags are not categories, there are both custom taxonomies that are not hierarchical. imho a hierarchy is interesting in case of Categories.

I think building a plugin to organise Groups in categories can be interesting and might be an interesting alternative to BP Group Hierarchy

It would probably allow you to register a category with the plugin.
