Beta title sort on author page no longer ignoring articles

Problem

At some point in the last month or two, the author page work title sort that’s visible to librarians had a regression.

As originally designed, the sort ignored articles (“The Hobbit” sorted with “H”) but now articles are not being ignored (“The Hobbit” sorts with “T”).

Context

Breakdown

It’s certainly a SOLR config change, but I haven’t had a chance to look into it any further.

Ah we updated to solr 9.9 around that time ; I reckon that was the change that caused it, but not sure how. Here's the config we changed as part of that: #11188

I suspect that it's also not doing case (and diacritic?) folding in addition to not ignoring articles. Author sorting is messed too.
