Project Codes, plans for extending this functionality ? #10656

Not a fan of just extending out scopes of functions without a good plan for the overall architecture. Project codes are very simplistic and just linking them everywhere will not lead to better grouping of data as that is in the end manual work. I am working on a proposal for #7466 - that is probably a better long term solution instead of just linking in project codes |

I do not think that this is a good "general purpose" feature. You could potentially implement this using a custom plugin, however this is too specific / niche to implement across the entire software |

Thank you @SchrodingersGat for implementing #10657! From my experience, the main reason for using project codes has been for accounting and funding management. In many case, inventory would include multiple instances of the same part, some purchased for production, others for R&D Project 1, R&D Project 2, and so on, often spanning hundreds of individual items. Being able to easily group huge numbers of items based on the project code, and extract stock value accordingly, is a must have for many companies. I believe project codes could shine even more if they were also tied directly to stock parts. Adding project codes to stock parts could be the final link between buying parts, manufacture assemblies and sell said assembly under the same project code. |

So project codes (PC) are great for adding search ability and separating POs, Sales and more.
But I think it could be even better if PCs can be added to stock items. This would allow to have stock per project.
It would also greatly link with POs: Having a way to apply the PC to all parts at once on PO creation. And also have per line PC (like I mentioned in #10198)
Because the only alternative I've found that resembles is to have stock locations as the stock of a project. But this solution is less intuitive in the storage location tree if a same closet is shared between multiple projects.
What do you think ?
