How to work better with model forecast and hindcast data in IOOS Catalog. Are there metadata conventions we can use to 1) identify model output data (hindcast or forecast) and 2) associate related hindcasts and forecasts together.

Yes. Coverate Content Type can disambiguate. Unforunately we don't have this for many datasets.
