Description

Update node-fetch to the latest version and make sure build, tests and examples succeed.

Motivation

To stay up to date with a critical dependency we should update to the latest version of node-fetch.
Note that the node-fetch module output is now ESM only. We have to make sure our output compatible with ESM through bundling (e.g. with webpack) or changing the output type of our module to ESM (as described in #610).
