It probably depends on what you mean by "DM". The standard as such can of course be registered using StandardsRegExt. Of course, that would not link, e.g., the vodml file(s), say. Before thinking about technics: what do you actually want to effect with DM registrations?

I am not too sure - however section 6 and appendix E and F of VO-DML 1.0 do go into quite a bit of detail...

I think back then they planned to refer to DMs using ivoids. If we don't do that (and I don't see how that would be useful enough to warrant the complication), I don't think there is a strong reason to pursue this (and consequently drop this material in VO-DML 1.1).

I think back then they planned to refer to DMs using ivoids. If we don't do that (and I don't see how that would be useful enough to warrant the complication), I don't think there is a strong reason to pursue this (and consequently drop this material in VO-DML 1.1).

In my mind the DMs live in a separate namespace of which the model name is used as the prefix with a colon and all we need to do is make sure that this prefix is unique - we could think up some non-registry way of looking up all the existing DM prefixes - though the registry does seem an "obvious" place to look up this information .

Given that most DM will probably be "standard" the other alternative is to add the DM prefix as an extra field in StandardRegExt - would lose the ability to register an arbitrary DM, but perhaps that is no bad thing.
