Not working with specialised objects?

First of all thanks for sharing this nice widget.
The widget works in my project with a normal entity. When I use a specialisation of this entity on my page and I use this widget, nothing happens. The attribute being returned is an integer and it changes but the widget does not seem to recognise it(?).

In what scenario are you using the widget? With datasource or attribute? Is the attribute stored on the generalization or specialization. Which entity is the caller of the page, the generalization or the specialization? Some printscreens could help as well :)
