gcm_send_message retrieve invalid registration

When I try to send a message to a specific topic using gcm_send_message, its retrieves 'Error=InvalidRegistration'.

When I make a normal request following the structure documented here "https://developers.google.com/cloud-messaging/topic-messaging#sending_topic_messages_from_the_server", it works.

Has the target device subscribed to the topic?

Yes. I've done my own function to send messages to a topic and it worked. I think it's some problem with the headers that are send in the request of Push Notification implementation.

What params are you passing into gcm_send_message? I was able to send a message to a topic like this:
gcm.gcm_send_message(devices[0].registration_id, {'message': 'hello there'}, topic='/topics/my_topic')
and it works fine. I tried it using gcm_send_bulk_message and that also works as expected. Could I see a code snippet?

@jamaalscarlett I receive the same error when try to send to a particular device or using your code.
I've found a problem with content type, it works fine when I use 'application/json'.

In the django push notification documentation It says that there is no need to pass a device registration id to gcm_send_message because It will send a message to all devices subscribed to a topic. So I did it, but didn't work. I think it's a problem with the content type too. In my custom function I tried with 'application/json' and worked.

The problem is also present when I test with the software Postman. The problem is the content type like @emil-balashov said. When it's x-www-form-urlencoded, you receive the error "InvalidRegistration" but when the content-type is in "raw", the message is sent

@gabrielpcosta18 gcm_send_message takes a single registration id, you see InvalidRegistration if you pass in an invalid registration id or a list. Can you post the code snippet you are using. If the documentation states that registration_id is not needed when sending to a topic, it appears that there is a bug in the code. @emil-balashov & @firelight22 could you also post the code snippets you are using to send messages to a topic?

@firelight22 @emil-balashov @gabrielpcosta18 #321 should fix this. You must use gcm_send_bulk_message to send to topic subscribers. And the kwarg is "to", not "topic". The readme has been updated with a working example.

I was having the same problem but I added the registration_id (it's an ID generated by the FCM SDK for each client app instance) when you create the GCMDevice and now it works!
