The Maven Shade plugin has a [serious bug (MSHADE-419)](https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/MSHADE-419) which causes builds to fail. Do not upgrade the Maven Shade plugin past 3.2.4 until there is a release version which includes the fix for this issue.
