Plotly doesn't work with version 3.1.0

There are issues with the python frontend when the plotly version is 3.1.0. The plotly version has to be exactly 2.7.0 to work.

Why is that? What error do you get?

The UI will crash if you try to use plotly 3.1.0. I'm 90% sure I know what the issue is based on the error log.
