Option to transliterate tag and category paths

There should be an option to transliterate tag and category paths.

For example, in my case instead of /category/cronică/ I would prefer /category/cronica.

I would submit a pull request for this but I haven't yet found a reliable way to transliterate some characters (for Romanian the letters ț and ș) except with "manual" methods (the tr method).

Any progress on this?. I think it would be useful.
