Having lots of trouble getting transcoding to properly work on PS3/Movian

I am not seeing any FFMPEG logs at all regarding transcoding or direct play even being attempted by Jellyfin when trying to play a HEVC file (which is obviously not supported on PS3) on the PS3. Movian also reports the file type as HEVC and the buffer is completely overflowed. Here is a .xml file I tried which did not work. I did edit this file and the default PS3 XML file to include HEVC x265 but no luck at all sadly.

I have also been struggling with this and from my debugging I have noticed the following whenever Movian connects to Jellyfin:

I have updated my Movian XML to match the FriendlyName, ModelName, ModelDescription, etc., but it would appear based on this log information that Movian does not send a header with its request. Removing the header identification field does not result in Movian being detected.

I haven't looked into the source yet but I'm wondering if it doesn't support identifying clients without using request headers? And it seems that a request is immediately failing too

This is good to know. Although I did mess with the default DLNA profile and added HEVC support but still nothing happened at all. No transcoding occurred. Have you tried this and gotten any luck? I feel like the plugin is broken.

After a bit of experimenting I was able to diagnose that there were actually several formatting errors with the linked profile. This profile will successfully load and be properly identified once placed in /var/lib/jellyfin/plugins/configurations/dlna/user/Sony PlayStation 3 (Movian).xml:

Great news! After a bit of tweaking I've got it recognizing Movian and transcoding media! I haven't managed to figure out embedding external subtitles yet, but I'm gonna prepare a merge request

I needed to make some additional changes to the profile. They are there in the pull request, so you can copy the profile from there to test it. 👍

Was this merged into the latest version of Jellyfin server?

Maintainers haven't accepted the pull request yet. Not sure what the process is for that but hopefully they'll get to it eventually
