How to connect drwa.io locally to Github.com

Hi, I'm looking for a way to run the draw.io image locally and connect it to github.com so I can edit the diagrams.

I've tested the web version connected to github.com and it works perfectly, but when I try to replicate it locally, I can't find a way to enable the option in "File -> Open from -> Github". I've been able to enable the GitLab connection using environment variables, but not the github.com connection.

Is there any way to do this?

I'm using the jgraph/drawio latest image, dated 07/05/2026.

For GitLab, I tested "DRAWIO_GITLAB_ID" and "DRAWIO_GITLAB_SECRET," and they worked.
I tried the variables "DRAWIO_GITHUB_ID" and "DRAWIO_GITHUB_SECRET," but they didn't work.
I tried using the OAuth application from GitHub.com (public), creating a new account and entering the ID and SECRET, but it didn't work either.

In the container logs, I see this:
urlParams['gh'] = '0'; //github

Similarly, the following appears in their docker-entrypoint.sh file:

So it seems to me that the integration with github.com cannot be enabled locally.

I just modified the image locally and it worked perfectly!

You need to manually modify the following file:

/docker-entrypoint.sh

1. Locate the following line:

echo "urlParams['gh'] = '0'; //github" >> $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/draw/js/PreConfig.js

and replace it with:

echo "urlParams['gh'] = '1'; //github" >> $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/draw/js/PreConfig.js

2. Just below that line, add the following configuration to expose the GitHub client ID to the frontend:

echo "window.DRAWIO_GITHUB_ID = '${DRAWIO_GITHUB_ID}'; " >> $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/draw/js/PreConfig.js

3. Next, add the following lines to generate the necessary internal OAuth files. draw.io:

echo -n "${DRAWIO_GITHUB_ID}" > $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/draw/WEB-INF/github_client_id

echo -n "${DRAWIO_GITHUB_SECRET}" > $CATALINA_HOME/webapps/draw/WEB-INF/github_client_secret

4. Finally, run the container with the following environment variables:

docker run -d
--name drawio
-p 8080:8080
-e DRAWIO_GITHUB_ID=YOUR_CLIENT_ID
-e DRAWIO_GITHUB_SECRET=YOUR_CLIENT_SECRET
jgraph/drawio

After these changes, the GitHub integration will be available in the self-hosted draw.io interface.
