Feature Request: Delete button on detail view #34914

Open

Description

@nitram84
Overview of the feature request

Please add a delete button on detail view with the same logic like on list view.

Motivation for or Use Case

Currently the only way to delete items is on list view. But assume a user is on a detail view and decides to delete the record.

Current steps to delete an item starting from a detail view:

  • go back to list view, remember id or another identifier
  • search the object to delete (when elasticsearch is enabled e.g. with id: )
  • scroll to the right (an entity might have many attributes and there is no feature to filter/hide attributes in list view)
  • click on delete button

In my opinion this could be implemented more user-friendly and less error-prone.

Please add a delete button on detail view with the same logic like on list view:

Back Edit Delete

  • No delete button, if the entity is read-only.
  • After successful deletion, navigate to list view, otherwise stay on detail view and show error popup.

This affects any front-end. I don't think this is good feature to implement as a blueprint. There are no needles to add buttons on detail view and due to regular changes in templates a blueprint would be difficult to maintain. This feature is generic and could even be reused on detail views of authorities and users to ensure a consistent user experience.

    Also makes sense to me. :-) Should of course only be there for non-readonly entities

    @Rishabh0010

    @mshima There should also be a search bar so users can quickly find any record from list view page

    Screenshots of #35357 (head 8be0095e06), taken by Cypress on applications generated from that branch with a Book entity: the detail view with the new Delete button, the confirmation dialog, and the list after the deletion.
