Long running tools/progress notifications - does FastMCP work well with OpenAI responses API's MCP client

I am trying to move from function tools to an MCP server but I am facing a problem with OpenAI's MCP implementation. It seems that their client has a hard timeout of 60 seconds and does not send a progress token. While most of my MCP server's operations take just a few milliseconds, some other operates on external systems that may complete their operazions in 30 to 120 seconds. I'm stick with this problem: can't send a progress notification because the client never sends a progress token and I don't know how to work around this.

You may want to follow the progress being made regarding the issue of MCP long-running tasks in SEP-1686:
