Can't sync from android phone

Your Environment

• Version used: 12.0.0
• Operating System and version: android 14 and windows 11 24h2

Expected Behavior

After making changes on android phone in installed app I will see these changes on windows.

Current Behavior

There are a lot of errors while syncing:

Your data seems to be damaged ("Unknown validity error"). Do you want to try to automatically fix it?
This might result in partial data loss. - when I click ok nothing happens.

During last sync there might have been some error. Do you want to restore the last backup? - I want to see my sync, not my backup.

Then I click no and get message about deleting backup. Whenever I do I can't access to my edits on phone and can use only backup.

Steps to Reproduce (for bugs)

I can reproduce it reliably.
Make changes on phone and try to get them through Dropbox on windows.

I had this same issue, when running 12.0.0 on my pc and 12.0.1 on my phone. Upgrading the desktop fixed it for me.

Facing the exact same error but with WebDAV instead and running 12.0.1 in both desktop and android, should I open up a new issue for this or will it be considered a duplicate?

I am working on a complete rework of syncing, which also should hopefully fix this. Will take some more time though. :)

I just had this problem today and lost all my work from the last month, irreversibly. I am using a folder syncing app (Syncthing) to move my work from the android apps (my phone and my tablet) to the laptop. Once I moved the data to the laptop, I received those messages and the "remote" was totally overridden by the "local", which was from one month ago because I do not use the laptop for this often. I could not switch off my syncing app quickly enough and this almost empty "local" as pushed to my other devices. For some reason, when I opened the app on my phone the local was automatically overridden by this new empty remote without asking me. So I lost everything...

I already uninstalled. Not using this again.

@magr-prog I am sorry about this. I understand that this is a frustrating experience. As general note: Syncthing will never be a perfect solution for this, since as developer I have no control over when it will sync and no information on if it was successful. So when you use syncthing, please also create backups.

We probably should put a warning for localFile sync about this.
