Description
Hello developers,
First, thank you for your incredible work on this essential project.
I am writing to request support for a new Lenovo Legion model. The legion_laptop kernel module fails to load by default because the model is not on the allowlist.
System Information:
DMI Vendor: LENOVO
DMI Product Name: 83F5
DMI BIOS Version: Q7CN40WW
::Problem::
On boot, the kernel log shows the module refusing to load with the following message:
Module not usable for this laptop because it is not in allowlist. Notify the maintainer if you want to add your device or force load with param force.
::Solution & Result::
I can confirm that the module loads and the core functionality works perfectly after creating a modprobe config file with options legion_laptop force=1.
With the module force-loaded, the GUI is able to read and write hardware values, including switching the hardware power profiles (Quiet, Balanced, Performance). This is critical for allowing the high-wattage CPU and GPU to be fully utilized on Linux. The main features appear to be fully compatible.
::Request::
Could you please consider adding the DMI Product Name 83F5 to the official allowlist in a future release? This would allow the module to work out-of-the-box for all owners of this laptop model.
Thank you again for your time and effort.
