Jumping to Moloch

Sam was nice enough to point me to moloch on stackexchange. I am happy to start using it and telling others about my using it. Incidentally, my production path goes from pandoc to beamer [now moloch] to pdf.

Alas, may I beg for a little more sugar?

Moloch could use more examples for end users like myself. what made me use gotham before was the very nice example in

Right now, I am struggling with finding customizations for the following:

1. How to change the top bar for the slide title --- reducing its height by a few points, and shifting the left start of the frame title a little towards the right, change the color.
2. the gotham package had one nice feature: a level 2 ('##') heading was typeset in a very nice box. it has a similar functionality as a big "theorem" or "standout" slide. Alas, I can't go all inverted (black background). I would rather just go, say, orangy, or something.
3. I need not just the slide number, but the total slide number, as in

It would be even better if I could use moloch's original page number, but add the "out of x" aspect.

I am not sure I want to support this level of customization directly in moloch, although I would consider a PR to add a more condensed style, or something of that nature. You can always modify the templates provided in moloch manually, starting here:

You could for example redefine {frametitle}{plain} to your liking if you wanted full control. I would not be opposed to changing these templates in ways that would enable more granular control for users of the theme, but am not sure how to do it best right now. PRs are welcome!

As far as colors go, do the instructions in 3.2 in the manual do what you want? I was tinkering recently with a more dedicated coloring API for moloch, but I scrapped it in the end since the beamer API already did everything I needed.

You can use the page number in head/foot beamer template for this, which allows all kinds of options. See the beamer manual for more info about it.
