Question about "Show on click"

Is it normal that "Show on click" only works on the menubar showing on the inbuilt display?
On my external screen, which is set to "main display" when connected, clicking on the menubar doesn't do a thing;
when I click on the menubar (empty space, no ice-icon shown) on die inbuilt macbook screen it works normally though.
