Bug Description

The viewer downloads the results file twice. This is challenging when riding on the train in Germany.

The request for the results is issued each time a view is opened that accesses the results, e.g., the overview view.
For remote resources, I understand your point. However, in the typical use case, results.jplag is a local file (see screenshot) that you upload or that JPlag creates and automatically passes to the report viewer.
Either way, since the report viewer is hosted entirely on your machine and report.jplag is also local, no upload or download actually occurs, and the multiple requests do not seem critical.

Not exactly. It only needs to be fetched again when opening something in a new tab.

We fetch the result exactly twice. Once to determine whether a file is present and then again to actually use the file. We could definitely look into making this either a single request or having a separate GET request to the jar process that does not involve fetching the entire report
