Is jrnl dead?

Hi there,

No, jrnl is not dead, but it was mostly dormant throughout 2025. Even now, as a maintainer, I'm not committing a lot of time and energy to this project, but I am still motivated to keep it up to date eventually.

With the time I do spend on this project, my main focus is on stability and compatibility. I know there are lot of feature requests and feature PRs out there, but they are not a priority for me compared to bug fixes and staying on top of the Python version treadmill.

Still, I consider it an honor to maintain this program and I hope to keep doing this for years into the future. For me, it is a very concrete way to use my skills in defense of privacy, freedom, and truth in a world that constantly threatens those values.
