screen stays blank after running driver

I am aware that there is no support for this driver in newer raspberry pi os but i am using retropie buster 4.8.  I tried installing the driver and building the files using cmake. but after running the "sudo ./fbcp-ili9341"  command, it runs with no error but on the screen it flashes for a bit and returns back to blank screen. Is there any fix for this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated>.<
