dial unix /var/run/docker.sock: connect: permission denied

Have you ever used Docker on this host? Your user doesn't have permission to access the Docker socket. If you're not able to identify and resolve basic filesystem permissions problems, building K3s might be jumping in at the deep end.

I would recommend that you:

  1. Grant your user access to the docker socket - there's usually a docker group you can add your account to, and then log out and back in.
  2. Don't build with sudo, you'll end up with a bunch of files owned by root instead of your user.
