Switching to directory using fuzzy finder sometimes takes very long time. What may cause this?

Joshuto is amazing and I've been using it for quite a while. However sometimes, and I can't really figure out why, switching between directories takes a a very long time (like 20 seconds).

I've mapped "z,z" to fuzzy finder to quickly jump to another directory. So when I want to jump to another directory I press "z,z" enter something and select the directory to which I want to go. Then I hit enter, the screen blanks (I see the terminal again which I started joshuto) and after ~20 the directory open.

When moving around directories things works as expected. I'm wondering what might cause this delay and how I can debug this a bit?

I just C-c'd a window that was hanging which gave me:
