Assigning incorrect taxonomies to taxa on GBIF

There are taxa in the master list csv downloads that are being assigned incorrect taxonomic data.

Example from FBIS plants master list shown in screenshot below - should all be Kingdom == Plantae etc. These taxa are all plants with correct plant taxonomies on GBIF. They were also not uploaded like this and had the correct taxonomy fields.

As I understand it, the ‘Clear taxa not in group’ will not resolve this as the taxa themselves should be included, it’s just columns B to O that are wrong.

But in the taxa table the information is correct, suggesting the taxa tables and taxon management are not in sync.

Yes, there’s a problem when you upload taxa with On GBIF set to “yes” but do not provide the GBIF key. It will try to find the taxon using the species name, and sometimes it doesn’t get the correct one. I will investigate this further in the next sprint.

I believe @helendallas was experiencing some issues uploading the master list with the GBIF keys and scientific name and authority. I think it's due to the special characters, so she's been opting to upload without them.

I checked the taxa outlined here on staging:

These now have the correct taxonomic information on the taxon management metadata tables and admin taxa tables. The master list download also has the corrected taxonomic fields.

@dimasciput how do you suggest we prevent this from happening with future reuploads? Should we include the GBIF keys? Would uploading as csv UTF-8 help with the uploader reading the special characters?

Update: I uploaded the plants master list to FBIS staging as a CSV UTF-8 file and included the GBIF keys; I didn't encounter any issues during the upload. No animalia in the master list download.

@dimasciput if this issue is present in other modules, would we need to reupload the master list with keys or is there another way to fix it?
