I forgot to do this 3 years ago, but per #779, I've decided to write out some text ideas for an Epson specific section to the Host Platform page on the wiki.
Epson PC-98 clones (PC-286/386/486, etc.)
Epson manufactured clones of the NEC PC-98 and while these drives normally work with host = pc98 and the Shugart interface, numerous Epson machines require that the density select logic be inverted. To make these machines work properly, change pin02 to pin02=ndens in FF.CFG.

As for the PC-98 section, I would add this:
Numerous older PC-9801 and PC-H98 models require the floppy drive to generate VFO. These models require a VFO adapter to be built, while there isn't a premade PCB design online yet a schematic can be found here (attached to the post as well). You can tell if your PC-98 requires a VFO board if the original drive has a D at the end of the floppy drive number, such as the FD1138D.
