I’ve been looking into building my rack for a while and noticed that many people opt for 2020 aluminum extrusion. Since this project is positioned as an open standard and aims to benefit the ecosystem as much as possible, it seems relevant to acknowledge the already well-established 2020 and 1515 extrusion ecosystems. Making HomeRacker compatible with these standards would be a meaningful addition to the project.
This could be done through simple adapter parts that preserve the 15 mm base_unit while interfacing with 1515/2020 slots, allowing mixed builds without altering the core design. It would let users combine printed components with extrusions for stiffness, height, or load where needed.
Overall, compatibility with 1515/2020 would align HomeRacker with an existing mechanical standard, reduce friction for adoption, and encourage reuse of existing hardware while expanding the range of possible builds.
