Allow mapping to macOS Dictation key

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
I'd like to be able to trigger dictation from my keyboard. There doesn't seem to be a good automated way to remap dictation to something other than the macOS dictation key. Therefore it would be nice to be able to directly map to Dictation.

I understand that this might not be possible due to how macOS handles custom key codes. I found this comment which seems relevant, but that's for hidutil.

An option under Mac / iPad keys called "Dictation"

I tried setting up a remapping in the keyboard settings, but that requires clicking in the UI it seems.

Additional context
I use dictation a lot when I only have one hand to use the keyboard (which is the only time a split keyboard is less convenient to use).

The easiest thing to do here is to customize your mac's dictation key to something like 'F13'.[image: image.png]

I can't see the image, but as I said in the original message:

I have done what you suggested, but changing the default setting doesn't actually cause it to take effect, so you have to futz in the UI for every machine. I agree this is a reasonable workaround in general though.
