What if you don't want to have to communicate with your MacBook pro? You shouldn't have to communicate with your MacBook pro to use this. How do you just get the port number of a usb device once it is attached?

You don't have to communicate with a MacBook pro, this works for any Apple device. You also have to create your own port number that the app will use, and just make sure that when the app runs on two or more devices, they are all using the same port number.
