Opensoundscape dependencies, pytorch and torchvision

Hi everyone,

I would like to ask you if it could be possible to add some information about how to create a good environment for opensoundscape especially by using GPU. I've been trying many configurations of my environment and I can't get opensoundscape working on my GPU (NVIDIA GTX 2080).

In short, I would like to know how to use the latest version of OPSO with GPU on windows and Linux.

Hi Jonas,
If torch is not properly using the GPU, you need to match the pytorch versions to your current CUDA version (ref). I recommend starting with a fresh conda enviornment incase the old one has some weird historical contingencies.

1. check your cuda version with nvidia-smi . If it's older than 12.6, consider updating your cuda version
2. Click through the options on this page to determine the proper pytorch install command for your CUDA version
3. Installation process to ensure you get the correct pytorch version:

conda activate [my-env]
pip install --upgrade opensoundscape
pip uninstall torch torchvision
pip install torch torchvision --index-url https://download.pytorch.org/whl/cu130

replacing the last line with the install command given in step 2

Then you can check your setup with

conda activate [my-env]
python

and in the python shell:

import torch; torch.cuda.is_available()

which will print True if torch has access to the CUDA GPU
