I know there are already a few issues related to importing large files, but I wanted to open a new one specifically requesting an upgrade of occt-import-js to use OCCT version V7_8_0 or higher.
The V7_8_0 release includes notable improvements to STEP import performance that would offer a dramatic benefit to this project. For example, using this 46 MB file from GrabCAD, I observed import times improve from 228 s → 128 s — a substantial performance gain.
I realize there’s already an existing ticket to upgrade OCCT, but that issue doesn’t specify a target version or rationale. I wanted to document these performance improvements and related findings here for visibility. That ticket references OCCT tracker issue #33681, but I’m unable to log in to view it — could anyone summarize what it covers and whether it’s been resolved? After upgrading OCCT and running the prebuilt test suite, I noticed one of the surface tests is failing (possibly related to this closed ticket). It seems likely these issues are connected — hopefully the upstream OCCT fix addresses it by now.
