iTerm2 status bar can depend on tab specific information, for example I can show CWD, process tree, Git information, and current Python version in the status bar. Is it possible to achieve something similar in Kitty? I know I can put all of them in tab title, but that makes tab title rather long.

Not sure what you are asking. If you find the tab title becomes too long you will find that the custom status bar is even longer since it occupies an entire row, regardless of the size of its contents, unlike tab titles.

The status bar being long is fine, because it is only for the current tab. If we put the same information into tab title, then each tab would be 30 characters width, and 5 tabs can easily be wider than screen.columns.

Also when I’m looking at tab 1 I don’t need to know all the information of tab 2; if we put all the prompt into tab title then essentially we always see everything from all tabs.

So use active_tab_title_template in kitty.conf to make your active tab longer than all the rest.
