Development on the next major version (8.x) started

Hey there,

I just wanted to let you know that I have started working on the next major version (8.x) in #1036.

My plan is - as always - to keep breaking changes to a minimum. The first steps will be dropping support for PHP versions that are no longer actively maintained and removing deprecated components.

A quick expectation-setting note: this is volunteer work and there is no timeline. I will work on it when I have time and motivation.

If you are using the SDK in production, I would love your input early so I can avoid surprises later. In particular, please share:

• Anything you currently find unnecessary, confusing, or hard to work with
• Pain points you are currently dealing with
• Any upgrade concerns you already anticipate (edge cases, integrations, deployment constraints)

If you have suggestions, please include a short snippet or example of your current usage if possible (or a link to a minimal repro). That makes it much easier to judge impact and propose a migration path.

I will keep #1036 as the tracking PR for 8.x work and link follow-up PRs from there.
