Support for multi infra provider provider - Hybrid CAPI Cluster (VM + Baremetal)

Reviewing past issues/discussion, I cannot find a definite answer on the topic.

I deploy CAPI clusters using the 100% capi-cluster-vsphere-infra provider
I'm also deploying CAPI baremetal cluster using 100% capi-metal3-infra provider / baremetal operator /ironic

Now I want to deploy a hybrid CAPI cluster, vsphere control plane and add pool of baremetal workers.
Is this theoretically supported?

I'm failing at every attempt so far and cannot find any references.
