Question on naming of metrics

I am a little confused by the naming of some of the metrics. I will give one example but this might be solved by documentation.

postfix_showq_message_size_bytes_count

Reads like the size of all the messages in a particular queue but seems to actually output the number of messages in the queue. Is this just a typo/bad wording or am I misunderstanding what this metric actually shows?
