Description
Description:
I am experiencing a persistent issue where my system audio volume is significantly attenuated (quieter than normal) after uninstalling Background Music. Even though I followed the official uninstallation instructions, the issue persists.
Steps to reproduce:
Install Background Music.
Uninstall using the provided uninstall.sh script.
Restart the Mac.
The volume is very low, even when the system slider is at 100%.
Observed behavior:
After a fresh boot, the audio output is very quiet (attenuated).
If I change the volume to 50% using the keyboard or menu bar, it becomes even quieter, as if a "hidden" gain is set very low.
Temporary fix: Running sudo killall coreaudiod in Terminal immediately restores the volume to its correct, full level. However, the issue returns after every reboot.
I have checked /Library/LaunchDaemons, /Library/LaunchAgents, and /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL/, and they appear to be clean, yet coreaudiod still seems to load a corrupted state or a "ghost" driver profile upon startup.
Update:
I've also noticed that the issue re-triggers dynamically; specifically, every time I restart Apple Music, the volume drops back to the attenuated level (whereas Safari seems unaffected), and I have to run sudo killall coreaudiod again to restore normal volume.
Environment:
macOS version: 26.2
Device: MacBook Air M2
