Addendum: Actually, VoWifi seems to work too. I had to enable it in the SIM card settings (Inside the android settings) in addition to the Pixel IMS application. With this, IMS status says VoWifi available and I can do phone calls, ussd codes and SMS while in flight mode with Wifi on. My wifi uplink is provided by the same carrier, so it is a academic excercise. It might not work if your IP address isn't a vodacom address or from abroad. |

Hi,
I just want to drop a quick note that I was able to to enable VoLTE on my Pixel 8a running Android 16 with this application. VoLTE is registered and calls work - they don't fall back to 3G any more as they did before.
USSD codes still used 3G. I set KEY_CARRIER_USSD_METHOD_INT = 1 (USSD_OVER_IMS_PREFERRED) with the "manually set config" button and now USSD codes stay on 4G and reply a lot faster than before.
Note that you need a relatively new SIM card for VoLTE to work. The oldest one that I know of that has working VoLTE is from October 2024. A SIM card from January 2025 does not seem to work, so there seems to be some transition going on.
VoWIFI is not working, but it isn't working on Vodacom-sold & branded phones either. So I guess this is a Telco limitation.
VoLTE with Vodacom TZ + new enough sim cards is working out of the box on the 3 following phones: Nokia/HMD 225 4G from 2020, Nokia/HMD 115 4G from 2024, a vodacom branded Digit 4G energy running what looks like a crippled Android 12. These phones can come in handy to test if a SIM card is new enough.
