<p>En las regiones andinas que un día formaron parte del Imperio Inca, es decir, desde Ecuador al norte de Chile y noroeste de Argentina, la madre naturaleza es conocida con el nombre de <em><a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachamama">Pachamama</a></em>.</p>
<p>Pachamama es una palabra hermosa. Su significado y etimología nos recuerdan que todos formamos parte del mismo lugar y que todos procedemos de lo mismo. En quechua y aymara, <em>Pacha</em> significa Tierra en un sentido amplio que incluye Mundo y Naturaleza. Es el entorno que nos rodea y nos da sustento para la vida. <em>Mama</em> significa madre, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mama_and_papa" title="Enlace en Inglés">como en casi todas las lenguas del mundo</a>, ya que esas son las sílabas más fáciles de pronunciar para cualquier humano que esté aprendiendo a hablar mientras que cualquier madre del mundo está dispuesta a creer que es a ella a quien van dirigidas.</p>
<p>En estos lugares de los Andes, es de suma importancia rendir el culto que se merece a la <em>Pacha</em>. Ella tiene el poder de decidir que un año sea bueno o malo en cosechas y que vaya bien o no con los animales, por lo tanto, de que un año los miembros de una familia puedan llenar sus estómagos o no. Por eso, se la tiene presente cada día pero especialmente en el mes de la siembra, cuando se celebra un día en su homenaje.</p>

<p>Cada casa, cada familia tiene una forma algo distinta de celebrar el día de la Pachamama. Cuando llegó el conquistador español, éste prohibió cualquier forma de manifestación religiosa o espiritual que no fuera la cristiana. Sin embargo, la importancia que se le otorga a la mamita Tierra es tal que su día se siguió celebrando de la forma en que se pudo. A escondidas, debido al miedo a las represalias de los españoles, cada hogar se adaptó como mejor supo. Algunos pasaron a cocinar las ofrendas de comida a la noche, con el propósito que el humo saliendo por la chimenea no se convirtiera en delator. Otros prefirieron cocinar poco y realizar toda la ceremonia de puertas para dentro. Estos cambios, forzosos en un principio, poco a poco fueron convirtiéndose en la tradición, pasando de tatarabuelos a bisabuelos hasta que en la actualidad se han convertido en el ritual “normal” del festejo para cada casa.</p>
<p>En la siguiente entrada, tendremos la suerte de asistir a una de estas celebraciones. Concretamente a la que realiza una familia de una comunidad indígena que reside en la <a href="http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebrada_de_Humahuaca">Quebrada de Humahuaca</a>, en Jujuy, dónde el día de la Pachamama es el primero de Agosto. Como hemos visto, ésta contendrá elementos comunes con otras celebraciones del día de la Pacha pero también particularidades concretas de la familia.</p>

Creo que el Culto de la Pachamama es un retorno a los valores promitivos de la condición humana. Hoy nuestra Amèrica andina es la vanguardia en la preservación de la Tierra. Es la epopeya de recuperar la tierra desde nuestra idiosincrasia y dejar de convertirla en un objeto de depredación. Tenemos que ser misioneros de la Pacha mama para recuperar la tierra para el hombre.</p>
