Windows Issue

Hey Landaire,
while the old toolkit was annoying windows but you could tell to trust it. The new version of it just triggers an "not sufficient rights message" (even when using it as operator) and getting insta deleted. I know this might be circumnavigated but why does windows think your tool is so dangerous, that it does not even allow it to be copied?

Can you post the exact error you're getting? And is it Windows Defender?

Antivirus engines kind of hate Rust applications it seems, and AV does operate based on reputation as well. So the more used an application is the more trusted AV engines consider it.

I'm unsure why you may be seeing this now though -- maybe earlier versions gained more trust because I was doing less frequent updates.

As an aside, the toolkit does not need administrator privileges and although obviously I trust it, I would not recommend running as admin.

not sure if this is working or helping :) sadly my computer only speaks german. This message is resulting into insta disappearing of the file. trusting the file using windows defender does not solve the issue.

My team at work ran into this issue a while ago and it turns out it was caused by a new reputation based protection feature that was automatically turned on by default in a routine Windows update.

(Don't know the Windows verbage in German, sorry in advance)
Go to Start --> Settings --> Privacy & Security --> Windows Security --> App & browser control --> Reputation-based protection.

If you see a button that says 'Turn On' then it is NOT turned on and that is not causing your issue.

If you don't see a 'Turn On' button, then hit Reputation-based protection settings --> Potentially unwanted app blocking --> Switch it Off.

Note that it's probably not GREAT to run without this feature turned on (not sure if Windows Defender will continue to find fishy downloads/apps in routine scans with reputation-based protection turned off). I would much rather it give the option to allow users to allow apps through that may have been flagged. But I'm not aware that this is an option on Windows 11 (it is in Windows 10).

But if you turn reputation based protection off and the toolkit is allowed through, then you know where the issue is.

@niclasknig-rgb that's totally fine, I can translate. I'm taking the lazy way out here and asked Claude what could be the cause of the behaviors and it pointed out that maybe the antivirus exclusion is being added too late? I also agree with janatan's suggestion above, it may help. It does lower the comprehensive security of your PC, but it's worth giving it a shot at least temporarily to see if it resolves the issue.
