Quick Actions refer to highlighted text

I see this was requested once before, but never picked up. I'd like to request it again. I'd like to be able to target selected text with an action in markdown. So in addition to something like <selected_text> or similar so that quick actions only manipulate the selected text. This opens up the platform for real assisted editing work, which is not possible without the ability to target portions of text. Thank you!
