Methods such as orderBy, inRandomOrder, paginate, findOrFail etc. do not get suggested from Model

I have written this Ninja model:

But when I type it's methods, methods orderBy, findOrFail and paginate aren't recognizable in Laravel 12. They do not get suggestions in VS Code. I've checked Model class and these methods don't exist in it. I have the official Laravel extension and PHP Intelephense installed. I assume something has changed in Laravel 12.

I've found a workaround to add method query after the Model name. It works for paginate, findOrFail, but it doesn't work for orderBy, inRandomOrder etc.

Steps To Reproduce

1. Create Laravel Project
2. Create a Ninja model (with flags -mfs)
3. Create a Ninja controller for the model
4. Type $ninja = Ninja:: in the controller
5. Type a method name, e.g. orderBy
6. It does not appear in suggestions

i feel like this is really just an issue with intellisense rather than that the methods actually dont exist

laravel historically hasnt played very nicely with IDEs and while there have been several plugins etc attempting to improve that that seems the most likely explanation to me here

Model forwards call to protected Eloquent Builder $query when the function is not found in model. You can use https://github.com/barryvdh/laravel-ide-helper for better autocomplete.
We always use Model::query()->... to have autocomplete and ctrl+click functionality.

The project has no problem when running.

Then you don't have to worry about this problem but I suggest you to use another IDE maybe phpstorm would be better option or I don't usually use VS Code and since you are getting this error maybe you need to configure it a bit.

You can use https://github.com/barryvdh/laravel-ide-helper and the Model::query() method for autocomplete. Phpstorm or Cursor have a better auto completion IMHO

I've tried it. The methods still didn't get suggested. I'd rather stay on VS Code than to switch to paid IDE.

The issue still persists on the latest Laravel (12.25.0). I have the following extensions (on the sidebar) installed + PHP Intelephense. I'd rather be on VS Code, because I don't have enough money to subscribe to PHPStorm.

Have you tried to write it manually and see, is it working actually. Maybe you missed something while setting laravel.

1. Try to do it manually if it works then something is wrong with your ide. I suggest you to reinstall it.
2. If it doesn't work then something is wrong with your laravel not your ide. I suggest to reinstall everything laravel and php. Do everything again.
   I strongly suggest you to use Laravel herd if you are using Windows or Mac. Free version would be more than enough for you.

I've now installed PHP extension by DEVSENSE instead of Intelephense and orderBy method was suggested.

But... nothing gets suggested after it, even paginate.

Also:

Method Ninja::orderBy() is not defined. The call is passed to the magic Model::__callStatic() method.PHP(PHP6615)

Now this works flawlessly:

That sounds good, I assume everything is ok with you now. But this problem is so rare and I have not seen it before. That's why I strongly suggest you to reinstall everything or do it with latest instructions (I recommend Laravel documentation the best or laracast videos on YouTube).

Also just the information, if you are a student take github student pack with your student ID and university student. It gives you so many options the best part is free JetBrains products. Or ask your student friends to use their id if they don't interested in this kind of stuff. It's just the useful hint for you :)
