Making Legit comparable to Magit

Legit is currently a good start and is very useful, but obviously it doesn't do all the things that Magit can do. This is intended to be a place to log what is needed, and to hopefully brainstorm some solutions.

Hello (primary Legit author here)

• many commands could be implemented right now IMO, for example stashes: save, apply, pop…
• it will be very helpful to have a textual menu interface (à la transient/hydra/which-key)
  • and more UI ideas are welcome
• I want to implement the reword and edit actions of an interactive rebase, but this requires a deeper analysis of git's inner workings. I could brainstorm this with someone. Given than we use a shell script to fake the git editor process, how does that fit with a rebase that spans multiple actions/edits?
• Legit isn't slow (its Legit status calls the git binary 3 times), but to anticipate and make Legit better than Magit,
  • we investigated using a pure Lisp git layer: https://github.com/fiddlerwoaroof/cl-git (at least where that makes sense) (will be possible, quite early for the library)
  • or using libgit2 FFI but not as the primary method, only if it is available on the system. https://github.com/russell/cl-git/

I do plan to write a UI module for transient 'like' behavior (once I've finished which-key, which requires some changes to multi-column...). And if I get the time, I'll see if I can put together a list of commands that could be implemented by people who want to contribute. That might even be something to note in the documentation.

Unfortunately I don't know enough about git's inner working to be the person to brainstorm this with you, but there must be someone in the Lisp community.
