Is there a way to revert the folder to what it was originally (like a factory reset)?

I'm no sure what would count as a factory reset. Removing .DS_Store might be useful for you, but I can't tell.

If you want to remove the icon for a folder, you can just remove the icon file:

# fish
rm '/path/to/folder/'Icon\r

# bash / zsh
rm '/path/to/folder/'$'Icon\r'

EDIT: to be clear, this clears any icon that has been set but that doesn't mean the folder will show a generic folder icon without a design. If the folder has a default icon handled by macOS (e.g. default top-level folders in the home dir), it will show that. Perhaps that's what you mean?

Solved by just using rm to remove the icon file from the folder as recommended.
