Avif question

Just checking if I understand things correctly.
If I set format: avif in the settings, a source AVIF image will generate an AVIF thumb, but a source jpg image will not generate an avif thumb . Is this correct ?

looking at the source code of this bundle, we seem to not do anything explicitly about avif.
are you requesting the jpg image with the avif extension, or with jpg extension? i am not 100% sure but think the extension in the url could overwrite the desired format.

if this is not the problem, the reason would be in the behaviour of the Imagine library and should be checked with them.

It seems whatever I set in format config setting has no influence on the generated thumb format.

I have tried different combinations, the output format is always the same as the original picture extension.

This seem to contradict the doc:

format - hardcodes the output format (which means that the requested format is ignored).

Doesn't it ?
